Supporting E-Submission

Electronic Submission is Here!

Cayuse is actively participating in the development and deployment of software enabling individuals and institutions to submit proposals electronically to NIH and Grants.gov

NIH

In September 2002, Cayuse became a funded NIH Development Partner. We were awarded a SBIR grant for the development of electronic submission technologies for NIH as part of the eCGAP program. In this capacity, we have participated as a certified Service Provider in every pilot submission since the inception of the program and we are in nearly constant contact with the NIH development team.

“I've been doing grant proposals for ten years, and electronic submission is great. Cayuse Tech Support was with me all of the way! Now that I've done one electronic submission and understand the process, I want to submit all of my grants this way.” - Lisa Gelia, Valley Fever Center, University of Arizona, June 7, 2005.

NIH requires that Service Providers be certified for each proposal type prior to submission. Cayuse is and has been certified for all types currently acceptable to NIH:

  • simple modular new applications
  • simple modular revised applications
  • simple modular Type 2 applications
  • simple full-budget applications (pilot phase)

Information for PIs and SOs, describing some electronic submission requirements and allowed proposal types, is available from NIH . As described there, shortly after the grant application has been submitted electronically, the PI and SO will receive email from NIH instructing them to login to their NIH Commons accounts to approve the final application. Screen shots documenting what you will see may be found in the NIH eRA Commons February 2004 Release Notes.

“I've been happy to help with the process of making grant submission possible on-line. I'll be glad when this is a reality for everyone. Your people were, without exception, helpful and professional." - G.K., Ph.D., Galveston, TX.

Also on the suggested reading list for pilot electronic submission applicants is NIH eRA CGAP Helpful Hints, which documents many things, including such details as how investigator cover letters are handled.

Grants.gov

In addition to our work with NIH, we are developing system-to-system (S2S) software which will use Grants.gov as its submission portal. Wehave actively participated in Grants.gov stakeholders meetings and we submitted some of the first test data via the S2S interface.

For all federal agencies, our goal is to provide a set of technologies which meets the needs of all stakeholders in the grant application process.
